The Greatness of Goodreads Giveaways

Hello, guys, and happy Saturday. Unless you’re like me, of course, and are not having a happy Saturday because your car broke down on the way to a family get-together 2 hours away, so you had to miss the event and sit around at home wallowing in your misfortune. But I hope you are all not like that. I hope you are all reading happily, like I am now.

This week, I’d like to talk about Goodreads Giveaways, because I feel like many people don’t know about them and how great they are. First of all, do you know about Goodreads? Because if not, hello, come out from under your rock — Goodreads is the best book database and catalog on the Internet. I use it to keep track of all my read and tbr books, as well as find new book recommendations, post reviews, and create a yearly reading challenge.

Okay, so now you’re up to speed on Goodreads, let me tell you about their Giveaways — they’re completely free!! All you have to do is sign up for a Goodreads account and BAM — hundreds of chances to win free books! You may be thinking, Well, Alyssa, I never win things, and I probably don’t have any chance of winning a book from these giveaways. Well, here’s what I have to say to you, my friend: you’re wrong. I am not the lucky kind of person to win things, either, but I’ve actually won a Goodreads Giveaway before! Was it a super-cool, super-popular, well-known novel? No. It was a little YA novel from a new author, but I enjoyed it and it was free! Seriously, what more do you need other than free books?

You can sort the Giveaways in 4 ways: Ending Soon, Most Requested, Popular Authors, and Recently Listed. I typically browse the Ending Soon and Most Requested lists. Who knows — you may find some books you’ve never heard of before and add them to your tbr! You may even win one!

Anyone here a James Patterson fan? Well, he’s got some book giveaways going on right now. What about Nicholas Sparks? His novel Two by Two has a giveaway right now, too!  Agatha Christie, P.C. and Kristin Cast, Lauren Oliver, Gena Showalter, Maggie Stiefvater — any of those guys ring a bell? They all have giveaways going on, and you need to get over there and win some books!!! Here’s a couple I just entered, just to give you an idea:

And there’s plenty more where that came from. So seriously, if you haven’t entered any giveaways yet, get on it! And good luck to you all. I’m gonna need some luck after this crappy day…
